3rd (Prince of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards officer’s gilt uniform button produced between c.1895–1922, dating from the late Victorian period through the First World War and into the early inter-war years. This British Army cavalry officer’s button displays the recognised insignia of the 3rd Dragoon Guards in sharp relief, a composition typical of British Army officer uniform buttons of the period. Manufactured in gilt metal with a polished finish, it reflects the higher-quality construction and finish associated with officer-grade uniform fittings.
The reverse is impressed with the maker’s mark Pitt & Co., 31 Maddox St., a well-known London military outfitter and button manufacturer supplying uniform accoutrements during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Buttons of this pattern were intended for wear on officer tunics and full dress uniforms and are collected as examples of British Army cavalry officer insignia, First World War era militaria, and historically marked uniform components.
Condition
Good, with the majority of its gilt finish and minimal surface wear. Relief detailing remains sharp and clearly defined, and the reverse shank and maker’s mark are intact and clear. No damage, repairs, or alterations are evident.
