3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles cap badge produced as a restrike of the King’s Crown pattern worn by the 3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles of the British Army. This Gurkha infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the crossed kukris as the central device, representing the traditional fighting knives carried by Gurkha soldiers. The kukris are arranged with Queen Alexandra’s cypher and the number “3” in the centre, surmounted by the King’s Crown, in a composition characteristic of twentieth-century Gurkha headdress insignia.
The crossed kukris device is the defining emblem of Gurkha regiments and symbolises their long-standing martial tradition and battlefield reputation. The 3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles served with distinction in numerous campaigns during the British Indian Army period and continued in British Army service until its independence and transfer to India in 1950.
Manufactured in white metal, consistent with service dress wear, this restrike example provides a sharply defined representation of the traditional regimental pattern. 3rd Gurkha Rifles cap badges are collected as examples of Gurkha militaria, British Indian Army and British Army insignia, and historic regimental uniform hardware.
