59th (Ontario) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force cap badge, a unit which existed from 1915 to 1916 when it was absorbed into the 39th Battalion, CEF. Marked on the reverse “Kinnear & D’Estere” and dated “1915”. This First World War Canadian cap badge displays the 59th Battalion’s motto “FOY POUR DEVOIR” in clear relief, incorporating the battalion title, maple leaf, and central battalion number, arranged in a formal and balanced composition typical of early Canadian Expeditionary Force headdress insignia.
Manufactured in brass with a service finish consistent with wartime production, this example bears the maker’s mark of Kinnear & D’Estere, a known Canadian manufacturer of CEF badges during the Great War. Cap badges of this pattern were worn on the standard CEF service dress cap and are collected as examples of WW1 Canadian militaria, CEF battalion insignia, and named manufacturer-marked regimental badges. The reverse is fitted with original lug fittings for secure attachment.
