An original and scarce example of the Army Pay Corps (APC) cap badge, worn during the earliest years of the corps’ formal establishment, circa 1898–1900.
Struck in brass, this early short-lived pattern features the intertwined initials “APC” in ornate script lettering. The reverse is fitted with the original east–west copper lugs, correct for the period and consistent with late 19th-century manufacture.
This badge was worn briefly following the formal creation of the Army Pay Corps in 1893, prior to the formation of the Royal Army Pay Corps in 1920. These early badges are particularly sought-after due to their short issue period, ornate design, and direct link to the expanding administrative and financial structure of the British Army during the late Victorian era.
