Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment cap badge produced as a restrike of the pattern worn between 1919 and 1958 by the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment of the British Army. This British Army infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the Hart in the centre, with the Royal motto in a circlet and set above a scroll bearing the regimental title “Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire”, arranged in a balanced composition characteristic of twentieth-century British Army line infantry headdress insignia.
The design reflects the regiment’s heritage following the renaming of the Bedfordshire Regiment in 1919 to acknowledge the important contribution of Hertfordshire units during the First World War. This design was issued throughout its service during the inter-war period and the Second World War, continuing in use until the regiment was redesignated in 1958.
Manufactured in white metal consistent with service dress wear, this restrike example provides a sharply defined representation of the traditional regimental pattern. Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment cap badges are collected as examples of British Army infantry militaria, regimental insignia of the Home Counties, and historic uniform hardware.
