Berkshire Imperial Yeomanry cap badge (c. 1900–1908 pattern) – original example of British Army headdress insignia associated with the Berkshire Imperial Yeomanry. This pattern dates from the Edwardian era and reflects the period following the reorganisation of Britain’s Yeomanry cavalry units after the Second Boer War.

The badge features the regiment’s distinctive insignia in relief, incorporating the “Uffington White Horse” with the title “Berkshire IY” (Imperial Yeomanry). The design reflects the volunteer mounted forces raised for home defence and overseas service at the turn of the twentieth century, combining local identity with the prestige of imperial service.

Cap badges of this type were worn on military headwear by officers and other ranks of the Berkshire Imperial Yeomanry, serving as a visible symbol of regimental affiliation and esprit de corps. The regiment formed part of the wider Imperial Yeomanry movement established during the Boer War, when volunteer cavalry units were raised from across Britain to serve in South Africa.

Following the conflict, many Yeomanry regiments adopted the title “Imperial Yeomanry” and modernised their organisation and equipment. Original badges from this relatively short period are particularly sought after due to their association with the Boer War era and the evolution of Britain’s volunteer cavalry forces.

Manufactured in brass with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic and attractive piece of Edwardian Yeomanry insignia.
