Border Regiment Officer’s Silver-Plate and Enamel Cap Badge (1953–1959 Pattern), an officer-quality British Army regimental cap badge associated with The Border Regiment during the final years of its separate existence. Constructed in silver plate with enamel detailing, the badge represents the more elaborate style of insignia produced for officer uniform and is of particular interest to collectors of British Army officer badges and post-war regimental insignia.
The Border Regiment had been formed in 1881 through the amalgamation of the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot and the 55th (Westmorland) Regiment of Foot, retaining strong associations with Cumberland and Westmorland. The 1953–1959 pattern dates from the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and covers the regiment’s final period as an independent infantry regiment. In 1959, The Border Regiment was amalgamated with the King’s Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) to form the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment.
Silver-plated and enamel officer badges are particularly sought after by collectors of British Army officer insignia, post-war regimental history, and specialist cap badges. This example is suitable for collections covering The Border Regiment, Cumberland and Westmorland military history and British Army officer uniform.
