FOR UK SALE ONLY, WE CANNOT EXPORT AMMUNITION OR ORDNANCE!
An original British 40mm Mk. 4 shell case, dated 1943, manufactured by Platers & Stampers Ltd., Burnley, Lancashire. The 40mm Bofors round was the standard ammunition for the British Army’s 40mm Bofors L/60 (designated the QF 40mm) anti-aircraft gun, widely used throughout the Second World War across all theatres of operation by both Army and Naval forces.
This example is of drawn brass construction, retaining clear base markings that include the manufacturer’s monogram, “P&S”, date “1943”, lot number “358” and designation “40mm Mk. IV”. No naval markings present, so it was presumably issued to the Army or for Home Defence. The case is complete, empty, and fully inert, originally intended for the Bofors autocannon.
