Canadian General Service cap badge (c. 1939–1945 pattern), original example of Canadian military insignia from the Second World War era.

Manufactured in brass, this cap badge was worn by personnel serving within the Canadian General Service during the period of the Second World War. Unlike badges representing a specific regiment or corps, General Service insignia identified personnel serving in broader military appointments or units where a separate regimental badge was not applicable.

During the Second World War, Canada underwent a major military expansion, with hundreds of thousands of men and women serving in the Canadian Army and associated services. General Service personnel supported the wider war effort through a variety of administrative, training, logistical, and specialist roles, both in Canada and overseas.
