An original and scarce Canadian Militia large pattern cap badge, dating from the late Victorian era, featuring the Queen Victoria Crown (Imperial / “QVC”), used prior to 1901.
Struck in gilding metal, this large-format badge was worn by Canadian Militia units in the pre-Confederation and early Dominion of Canada period. The badge features the crowned central device, incorporating a maple leaf. Reverse fittings include east-west eyed copper lugs (loops).
These badges were worn by various non-permanent active militia units across Canada prior to the 1904 establishment of the Canadian Army Permanent Force cap badge system.
Condition: Very Good – Minor age-related wear with original fittings intact; strong detailing with natural patina.
