This full-size copy faithfully reproduces the appearance of the original General Service Medal clasp, fitted on a traditional medal carriage ready for display or wear. The medal commemorates service in the Canal Zone between 1951 and 1954, recognising British and Commonwealth personnel who served during a period of heightened political tension and military operations surrounding the Suez Canal.
The original General Service Medal (also known as the Campaign Service Medal) was instituted in 1918 to recognise qualifying service by members of the British Armed Forces who served in certain campaigns between 1918 and 1962, including the withdrawal of British forces from Egypt. Eligible recipients included personnel of the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and certain Commonwealth forces who completed the required period of service between 16 October 1951 and 19 October 1954.
As a modern copy, this clasp carries no entitlement to wear as an officially awarded decoration but accurately reflects the design and presentation of the original issue.
