Combined Operations lapel badge, manufactured in gilt metal and enamel and fitted with a clutch pin fastening. British Combined Operations was established during the Second World War to coordinate amphibious and raiding operations involving the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force. Under the leadership of figures including Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, Combined Operations played an important role in planning and conducting operations against German-occupied Europe.
The badge incorporates the Combined Operations insignia in a compact format intended for wear on civilian clothing or as a commemorative accessory. The gilt detailing contrasts with the coloured enamel, while the clutch pin fitting on the reverse allows the badge to be securely attached to a lapel. It is of interest to collectors of Second World War British militaria, Combined Operations memorabilia and Allied amphibious warfare insignia.
