Devon Constabulary Chrome Collar Badge

Devon Constabulary was established in 1967 through the amalgamation of the Devon County Constabulary, Exeter City Police, and Plymouth City Police. The force was responsible for policing the county of Devon, serving both rural communities and major urban centres, before merging with Cornwall Constabulary in 1974 to form the Devon and Cornwall Police under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972.

Collar badges formed an important element of British police uniforms, displaying the identity of the individual force while maintaining a smart and professional appearance. Chrome insignia became increasingly common during the post-war period due to their durability and resistance to tarnishing.

As Devon Constabulary existed for only seven years under that title, original insignia from the force are comparatively scarce and are highly sought after by collectors of British police memorabilia, particularly pieces dating from the period immediately before the creation of Devon and Cornwall Police.

Manufactured in chrome-plated metal with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an attractive and collectable piece of British policing history.
