Devonshire and Dorset Regiment cap badge produced as a restrike of the pattern worn between 1958 and 2007 by the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment of the British Army. This British Army infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the castle of Exeter as the central device, Sphinx above the battle honour “Marabout” mounted with scrolls bearing the regimental motto ” Semper Fidelis” (Latin: “Always Faithful”) and “Primus in Indis” (Latin: “First in India”). The composition reflects the heraldic traditions of the regiment and the historic associations of its predecessor units.
The regiment was formed in 1958 through the amalgamation of the Devonshire Regiment and the Dorset Regiment, combining the traditions and insignia of both units. The castle device derives from the historic badge of the Devonshire Regiment and represents Exeter Castle, long associated with the county of Devon and the regiment’s heritage. The badge remained in use until the regiment’s amalgamation into The Rifles in 2007.
Manufactured in blackened metal consistent with rifle regiment style headdress insignia, this restrike example provides a sharply defined representation of the traditional regimental pattern.
