Egyptian M1869 Remington Rolling Block Bayonet, designed to fit the Remington rolling block rifles adopted by Egypt in the second half of the 19th century, manufactured by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen, Germany. The piece reflects the period export production supplied to Egyptian arsenals and colonial contract requirements. Based on the M1866 Chassepot Bayonet, the blade form is of the long, yataghan fullered type with spear point profile, and the socket is formed to engage the Remington rolling-block muzzle and lock securely with the locking catch onto the rifle’s bayonet bar. The bayonet is contained within a steel scabbard with a steel loop for wear within a frog
Ricasso bears the maker’s trademark and “W”. No other notable marks present.
