First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) Cap Badge, a restrike example of the distinctive cap badge associated with the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY), also known as the Women’s Transport Service (FANY). The badge features the FANY insignia incorporating a central Maltese-style cross and circlet with the organisation’s title incorporated into the design. It represents one of Britain’s best-known women’s military service organisations and is of particular interest to collectors of women’s military insignia, nursing and medical service badges, British wartime militaria and FANY memorabilia.
Founded in 1907, the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry developed from a mounted first-aid organisation into a highly versatile women’s service. During the First and Second World Wars, members undertook a wide range of duties including nursing support, transport, communications and other military assistance. The organisation became particularly associated with the Women’s Transport Service during the Second World War.
As a restrike, this badge is a later-produced example of the original pattern and should not be confused with an original period-issued FANY cap badge. It remains suitable for display, research and collections of British women’s service insignia.
Dimensions
Approx. 38mm diameter.
