French 1914–1918 Commemorative War Medal

French 1914–1918 Commemorative War Medal, awarded to all qualifying French personnel who served during the First World War. Established in 1920, the medal was created to formally recognise military and civilian service between 2 August 1914 and 11 November 1918, including combatants, support personnel, nurses, colonial troops, and certain foreign volunteers.

The obverse features the classical warrior representation of Minerva wearing an Adrian helmet, symbolising the French Republic in wartime. The reverse displays an inscription “GRANDE GUERRE 1914–1918”, surrounded by the inscription “REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE”. This example retains its correct bronzed finish and is fitted with the original pattern ribbon in white with red stripes.

Condition

Good condition with most of it’s detail and a bronzed patina. A representative example of a widely awarded yet historically significant French First World War medal.
