French M1866 Chassepot Bayonet, designed for the Fusil Modèle 1866 or Chassepot bolt-action rifle, the typical service rifle in the French army from the mid-1860s to the mid-1870s, notably during the Franco-Prussian War. It has a single-edged and fullered “yataghan” style blade, a distinctive grooved brass handle, steel hook quillon cross guard and a leaf spring rifle catch.

Marked on the back of the blade “Tulle, Mai 1873” (National Arms Factory Tulle, May 1873
