French Model 1874 Gras Bayonet, Chatellerault, 1883. Brass-mounted hilt with shaped walnut grips held by two steel rivets. Steel cross guard, marked with acceptance markings, serial number “63” with an anchor on the reverse side, indicating being issued to colonial troops. Swept forward curved quillon, 522mm ‘T’ shaped steel blade dated roller impressed ‘Mre d’Armes de Chatellerault, 1883’ on the spine. Complete in blacked steel, non-matching tapered scabbard with ball finial.
Condition: Good, markings on the spine could be clearer, with some pitting on the cross guard and blade.
