Gordon Highlanders officer’s service dress collar badge, manufactured in bronze and worn as part of the regiment’s service dress uniform. The badge bears the distinctive regimental design of the Sphinx, associated with the Gordon Highlanders, a Scottish infantry regiment raised in 1794 and named after the Duke of Gordon, who was instrumental in its formation.
The bronze construction is consistent with the subdued appearance of officer service dress insignia, providing a contrast to the brighter metal badges used for other ranks and forms of uniform. Designed for wear on the collar of an officer’s service dress jacket, this badge is of interest to collectors of British Army cap and collar badges, Scottish regimental insignia and Gordon Highlanders militaria.
