Hertfordshire Regiment cap badge produced as a restrike of the pattern worn between 1909 and 1920 by the Hertfordshire Regiment of the British Army. This Territorial infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the hart (stag) as the central device, standing within a circlet bearing the regimental title “The Hertfordshire Regiment”. The composition reflects the heraldic traditions of the county of Hertfordshire and is arranged in a formal design characteristic of early twentieth-century Territorial Force headdress insignia.
The hart emblem is derived from the traditional arms associated with Hertfordshire and had long been connected with units raised within the county. The badge was worn during the early years of the Territorial Force and throughout the First World War, during which the regiment served overseas with distinction as part of the British Army.
Manufactured in brass consistent with service dress wear, this restrike example provides a sharply defined representation of the traditional regimental pattern. Hertfordshire Regiment cap badges are collected as examples of Territorial Force militaria, British Army infantry insignia, and historic regimental uniform hardware.
