Imperial German Army silver-plated flag ribbon banner (fahnenband) mount, an original decorative fitting dating back to the German Empire.
This silver-plated mount was designed to secure a ribbon or ribbons of the Imperial German army (Landwehr) flags, providing an elegant and durable fitting for ceremonial, commemorative, or decorative use. Such mounts were produced in silver or silver-plated metal and were used on various forms of military banners during the Imperial period.
The ribbon associated with these mounts typically displayed the colours of the State of Prussia or the German Empire, adopted following German unification in 1871. These colours became a widely recognised symbol of the Empire and appeared on military decorations, patriotic memorabilia, veterans’ organisations, and ceremonial items throughout the reigns of Wilhelm I, Frederick III, and Wilhelm II.
Original ribbon mounts from the Imperial era are of interest to collectors of German militaria and historical memorabilia, reflecting the craftsmanship and decorative traditions of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Their association with the German Empire makes them attractive companion pieces for period medals, uniforms, and patriotic artefacts.
Manufactured in silver-plated brass with provision for attachment to a ribbon, this example represents an interesting and increasingly collectable piece of Imperial German historical memorabilia.
