Imperial Japanese Russo-Japanese War Medal, awarded to commemorate service during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905. The conflict was fought between the Japanese Empire and the Russian Empire over competing territorial and strategic interests in Manchuria and Korea. Japan’s victory marked a significant turning point in East Asian history and established the country as a major military power.
The medal was instituted in 1906 and awarded to eligible Japanese military personnel and others who qualified through their service during the campaign. The design incorporates Japanese imperial symbolism and inscriptions commemorating the war. It is an important award for collectors of Imperial Japanese militaria, early twentieth-century campaign medals and Japanese military history.
