An original First World War British No. 80 Mk. IVA time-and-percussion artillery fuse, manufactured by Vickers, Sons and Maxim and dated June 1916. The No. 80 series was the standard fuze used on shrapnel and high-explosive shells for field artillery, providing both time-delay and impact detonation options. This example is of the Mk. IVA pattern, produced in brass with an aluminium nose cap. The body is clearly stamped with the manufacturer’s marking “VSM”, model designation “80IVA”, and “6/16” date stamp. Retains the correct graduated timing ring, adapter and original thread base. Rendered completely inert.
Condition
Good. Fuse is fairly beaten up, with ordnance markings and date visible in most places. The brass body and nose cap have developed an even age patina, with some dents consistent with storage and age. The timing ring is intact and retains legible graduations. All components are permanently inert, with no explosive content.
Inv. No:
SC-4
