Lincolnshire Regiment Old Comrades Association silver-plated and enamel lapel badge, original example of British regimental association insignia associated with the Lincolnshire Regiment.
Manufactured in silver-plated metal with coloured enamel, this lapel badge was issued to members of the Lincolnshire Regiment Old Comrades Association, an organisation established to maintain the comradeship and traditions of former officers and soldiers of the regiment. Designed for wear on civilian clothing, it served as a proud symbol of continued affiliation with the regiment after military service.
The Lincolnshire Regiment was formed in 1881 under the Childers Reforms through the amalgamation of the 10th (North Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot and the 106th Regiment of Foot. Recruiting primarily from the county of Lincolnshire, the regiment served with distinction across the British Empire and earned an outstanding reputation during the Second Boer War, the First World War, and World War II.
Following military service, many former soldiers joined the Old Comrades Association, which organised reunions, commemorative events, remembrance services, and welfare activities for veterans and their families. Association lapel badges were worn with pride at regimental functions, memorial services, and civic occasions, reflecting the enduring bonds of service and regimental identity.
In 1946, the Lincolnshire Regiment became the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment in recognition of its distinguished wartime service, before later amalgamating with the Northamptonshire Regiment in 1960 to form the 2nd East Anglian Regiment (Duchess of Gloucester’s Own Royal Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire). Today, its traditions are perpetuated within the Royal Anglian Regiment.
Original Old Comrades Association badges are increasingly sought after by collectors of British regimental insignia due to their attractive enamelled designs and direct association with the post-service history of Britain’s county regiments.
Manufactured in silver-plated metal with enamel detail and retaining its original lapel fitting to the reverse, this example represents an authentic and collectable piece of British regimental heritage.
