Button of the Mechanised Transport Corps, produced to the wartime pattern used between 1940 and 1945. Formed as a women’s organisation during the Second World War, the MTC played a vital role in providing drivers and transport personnel for the British Army, supporting home defence and overseas operations. Buttons of this pattern were worn on service dress and working uniforms during the Corps’ relatively short existence.
Manufactured in bronzed brass, the button is die-struck with clear detail and features the Corps’ fleur de lys and initials “MTC”. The reverse is fitted with a fixed shank for sewing to uniform garments.
Diameter
26mm
Condition
Very good, with clear detail and patina. Surface wear is present and the finish is uneven, consistent with age. The shank remains intact and secure.
