A well-executed restrike of the rare Motor Machine Gun Corps (MMGC) cap badge, originally worn during the early stages of the First World War, circa 1914–1915.
Struck in bimetal, this badge features crossed Vickers machine guns and King’s Crown (Tudor Crown) in brass with a large ‘MMG’ monogram below in white metal, identifying it as the earliest form of the unit, prior to its full integration into the Machine Gun Corps (Motors) in 1915.
This version is a modern restrike, not an original WWI-issue badge, but is suitable for display, re-enactment, or as a placeholder in a developing collection. The badge is fitted with a modern slider, and while not period-produced, it offers an accurate representation of this short-lived corps.
The MMGC was formed to bring mobile firepower to the battlefield using motorcycles with sidecar-mounted machine guns, and its personnel were among the first mechanised troops in the British Army.
