Northamptonshire Regiment Pagri Badge (Pre-1900 Pattern), an original piece of British Army regimental insignia associated with the Northamptonshire Regiment during the late Victorian period. The regiment formed in 1881 by amalgamating the 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment of Foot and the 58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment of Foot, bringing together the traditions and battle honours of both. Pagri badges were worn on the turban-style cloth headdress used with certain tropical and overseas service dress.
The design incorporates the regimental castle insignia associated with the Northamptonshire Regiment’s early patterns. The three-towered castle with the flag and long key beneath relates to the regiment’s historic heraldic design and distinguishes this pre-1900 pattern from the later version featuring no flag and a short key, introduced around the turn of the century. As an original example, this badge is of interest to collectors of Victorian British Army insignia, Northamptonshire Regiment militaria and pre-1900 regimental headdress badges.
