An original First World War On War Service 1915 lapel badge issued to civilian munitions workers in Britain. The badge is made of brass with a blue enamelled border and a white enamel centre, bearing the inscription On War Service 1915, surmounted by the Tudor (King’s) Crown. These badges were worn to indicate the bearer’s contribution to the war effort and to exempt them from accusations of shirking military service. Reverse is stamped with the maker’s details and bears the original buttonhole horseshoe fitting for wear on civilian clothing.
