Perthshire Highland Rifle Volunteers Glengarry cap badge (c. 1874–1884 pattern), original example of Victorian Scottish volunteer force headdress insignia associated with the Perthshire Highland Volunteers. This pattern dates from the late Victorian period during the reign of Queen Victoria and reflects the traditions of Scotland’s volunteer military movement in the latter half of the 19th century.

The badge features the distinctive insignia of the Perthshire Highland Volunteers in relief, incorporating the Scottish thistle and unit title, all surmounted by the Victorian Crown, characteristic of Scottish volunteer units of the era. Designed to be worn on the traditional Glengarry cap, the badge reflects the strong regional identity and martial heritage associated with Highland volunteer formations.

Glengarry badges of this type were worn as a visible indication of unit affiliation and formed an important component of volunteer force uniform dress. The compact yet detailed design reflects the quality of Victorian military insignia manufacture and the pride taken in local volunteer service.

The Perthshire Highland Rifle Volunteers formed part of the wider Rifle Volunteer movement established throughout Britain in response to defence concerns during the mid-19th century. These volunteer units played a significant role in local military preparedness and later contributed to the development of the Territorial Force.

Manufactured in white metal with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents a classic piece of Victorian Scottish volunteer force insignia and Highland military history.
