Polish People’s Republic Medal of Merit for National Defence, Silver Class, awarded under the PRL government prior to 1992. Instituted in 1966, this medal recognised soldiers, reservists, and civilians for outstanding contributions to strengthening Poland’s national defence during the Cold War era.
This pre-1992 version features a round silver-coloured medal with the Polish eagle without a crown, with the country of Poland on the obverse, surrounded by the inscription “Za Zasługi dla Obrony Kraju” (“For Merit in National Defence”).
Awarded in three classes — Bronze, Silver, and Gold — the Silver Class is the 2nd level, recognising valuable service such as long or exemplary military duty, contributions to civil defence, or active support of Poland’s military and security infrastructure during the socialist period.
