Polish People’s Republic (PRL) Order of Merit, Silver Class, awarded between 1952 and 1992. The civil decoration was awarded to Polish citizens for exceptional public service or humanitarian work that goes above and beyond the call of duty during the Cold War era.
The Cold War-era Order features a red enamel Maltese cross edged in silverplate, with a central white enamel medallion that reads “PRL”. The Gold Class is the highest grade within this version of the Order of Merit, signifying distinguished contribution at a national or international level.
The decoration is suspended from its distinctive maroon ribbon with pale blue stripes. These awards were often given to diplomats, foreign dignitaries, and notable individuals who advanced Poland’s interests during the communist period.
