A scarce original example of the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS) officer’s cap or collar badge, worn from 1902 until 1949. This elegant and highly distinctive pattern was worn by officers of the British Army’s military nursing service, named in honour of Queen Alexandra, with its formation at the turn of the 20th century.

The badge features a finely detailed Gothic-style cross overlaid with the entwined and crowned royal cypher “A” for Alexandra, set within a cirlet inscribed “Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service” and a scroll underneath that reads  “Sub cruce Candida” (Under the White Cross). This example is produced in fire-gilt brass or bronze-gilt, a quality finish generally reserved for officers’ insignia. The crown depicted is the Tudor (King’s) Crown, appropriate to the reigns of Edward VII, George V, and George VI.

The reverse is fitted with the correct two lugs (loops) for secure attachment to the peaked cap or service headdress.

Condition: Excellent – Well-preserved finish with sharp detail; original lugs intact and undamaged.
Dimensions: Approx. 31mm x 21mm
