Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders sporran badge, original example of Scottish regimental dress insignia associated with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.

Manufactured in metal, this original sporran badge features the distinctive regimental insignia of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and was worn on the front of the traditional Highland sporran as part of the regiment’s ceremonial and full dress uniform. Sporran badges formed an important part of Highland military dress, combining practical uniform requirements with the display of regimental identity, heritage, and pride.

The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders traced their origins to 1793, when the 79th Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders) was raised from the Cameron clansmen of Lochaber. The regiment adopted the name of the Cameron Highlanders in recognition of its Highland roots and quickly established a reputation for discipline, courage, and loyalty.

Throughout its distinguished history, the regiment served in numerous major campaigns, including the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the Second Boer War, the First World War, and World War II. The Cameron Highlanders battalions fought on the Western Front, in Gallipoli, North Africa, Italy, and Northwest Europe, maintaining the regiment’s reputation as one of Scotland’s most respected Highland infantry units.

The sporran badge was an important element of Highland ceremonial dress, worn alongside the kilt, plaid, sporran, and other distinctive regimental accoutrements. These badges displayed the regiment’s unique symbols and allowed soldiers to maintain a strong visual connection with their Scottish heritage and military traditions.

In 1961, the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders amalgamated with the Queen’s Own Gordon Highlanders to form the Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons), ending over 160 years of independent Cameron Highlanders service. Original Cameron Highlanders sporran badges are consequently highly sought after by collectors of Scottish military insignia, Highland dress, and regimental memorabilia.

Manufactured in metal and retaining its original fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic and collectable piece of Highland military history.
