Queen’s Own Hussars anodised cap badge, 1958–1993 Pattern, a British Army cavalry regimental cap badge associated with the Queen’s Own Hussars during the second half of the twentieth century. Manufactured in anodised aluminium, the badge represents the regiment from its formation in 1958 through to the 1993 amalgamation that created The Queen’s Royal Hussars.
The Queen’s Own Hussars was formed in 1958 through the amalgamation of the 3rd King’s Own Hussars and the 7th Queen’s Own Hussars, bringing together the traditions of two distinguished British cavalry regiments. The regiment retained the distinctive hussar traditions of its predecessors and served in Britain’s armoured forces during the Cold War and subsequent overseas commitments.
Anodised aluminium insignia was widely adopted for British Army uniform during the post-war period, providing a lightweight alternative to heavier metal badges. This 1958–1993 pattern is of particular interest to collectors of Queen’s Own Hussars militaria, British cavalry cap badges, anodised aluminium insignia, Cold War British Army equipment and post-war regimental history. The badge is also relevant to collections documenting the development of the regiment before its 1993 amalgamation with the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars to form The Queen’s Royal Hussars.
