Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort’s Own) glengarry cap badge, restrike example of the pattern worn by this distinguished rifle regiment of the British Army. This badge features the regiment’s traditional device in sharp relief, incorporating a crowned Maltese cross with battle honours to the arms, a central strung bugle horn, and surrounding wreath elements, all surmounted by a crown and executed in a darkened or blackened finish characteristic of rifle regiment insignia.
The bugle horn is the long-established emblem of light infantry and rifle regiments, symbolising skirmishing and rapid manoeuvre, while the Maltese cross form reflects honours and traditions accumulated over the regiment’s long service. The Rifle Brigade, originally raised in 1800, earned distinction in numerous campaigns, including the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, and both World Wars, maintaining its identity until later amalgamation into The Royal Green Jackets.
Manufactured as a restrike in white metal in keeping with rifle regiment traditions, this example provides a well-defined representation of the historic glengarry badge pattern. Rifle Brigade badges are widely collected as examples of British Army rifle regiment insignia, light infantry memorabilia, and military cap badges with Napoleonic and later lineage.
