Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort’s Own) cap badge, restrike example of the short-lived 1956–1958 pattern, representing the insignia worn by this distinguished rifle regiment of the British Army during the late post-war period. This badge features the regiment’s traditional strung bugle horn emblem in the centre of a Maltese cross and wreath bearing the various battle honours of the Rifle Brigade, surmounted by a ducal crown and incorporating the regiment’s title, “Rifle Brigade”, within a circlet, all executed in white metal characteristic of rifle regiments.
The Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort’s Own) was one of the most senior rifle regiments, known for its light infantry role, skirmishing tactics, and distinctive traditions. The bugle horn has long been the defining symbol of rifle units, representing speed, communication, and battlefield flexibility.
This restrike example replicates the appearance and design of the original issue badges, making it suitable for display, study, or as a replacement piece. While not of original manufacture, it provides an accurate representation of a relatively uncommon transitional pattern used shortly before later regimental reorganisations.
Manufactured in white metal with standard fittings to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined representation of British rifle regiment insignia. Rifle Brigade badges are collected as examples of light infantry history, regimental memorabilia, and cap badge collecting.
