Royal Anglian Regiment anodised button, 1964–1970 Pattern: a 26mm British Army regimental uniform button featuring the distinctive star-and-castle design associated with the newly formed Royal Anglian Regiment. Made of anodised aluminium, this lightweight button represents the regiment in its first years after formation in 1964.
The Royal Anglian Regiment was formed in 1964 through the amalgamation of four East Anglian infantry regiments, bringing together the long-established military traditions of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, Essex, Northamptonshire and the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment. The star and castle design incorporated into the regiment’s early insignia reflects its East Anglian heritage and provided a distinctive identity for the new regiment.
The 1964–1970 pattern is of particular interest to collectors of early Royal Anglian Regiment militaria, British Army anodised buttons, post-war regimental insignia and East Anglian military history. This short early pattern dates from the regiment’s initial period before subsequent changes to British Army uniform and regimental insignia.
Dimensions
26mm diameter.
Condition
