Royal Anglian Regiment officer’s cap badge, original example of British Army regimental insignia associated with the Royal Anglian Regiment.
Manufactured in gilt and silvered metal to officer quality, this cap badge features the distinctive crowned star surmounted by the Royal Anglian Regiment’s castle motif and scroll bearing the regiment’s title. Privately purchased by officers, badges of this type were produced to a higher standard than other ranks’ examples, with finely detailed die-struck construction and a superior finish.
The Royal Anglian Regiment was formed on 1 September 1964 as part of the reorganisation of the British Army, bringing together the county regiments of East Anglia and the East Midlands. Its founding regiments included the Royal Norfolk Regiment, Suffolk Regiment, Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, Royal Leicestershire Regiment, the Northamptonshire Regiment, and the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. The regiment proudly preserves the traditions and battle honours of these historic county regiments.
Since its formation, the Royal Anglian Regiment has served on operations around the world, including deployments to Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, and numerous peacekeeping and security operations. Nicknamed “The Vikings”, the regiment has earned a reputation for professionalism and operational excellence across a wide range of roles.
Officer’s cap badges are distinguished by their high-quality manufacture and were worn on the service dress and No. 2 dress caps, symbolising an officer’s affiliation with one of the British Army’s largest infantry regiments. Original officer-quality examples are particularly sought after by collectors due to their fine craftsmanship and continued regimental significance.
Manufactured in gilt and silvered metal with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic and collectable piece of modern British regimental history.
