Royal Artillery helmet plate (1902–c.1914 pattern), an original example of the Edwardian-era design worn by the Royal Artillery following the accession of Edward VII. This pattern reflects the transition from the Victorian to the Edwardian period and incorporates the king’s crown used during the first half of the 20th century.

The helmet plate features the classic Royal Artillery device in relief, comprising a field gun surmounted by the Royal Arms and King’s Crown, with the motto “Ubique” above and “Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt” below.

Introduced in 1902, this pattern remained in use until approximately the outbreak of the First World War, when changes in uniform and the move away from full dress reduced the widespread use of helmet plates. Examples of this type are therefore closely associated with the Edwardian Army and the final pre-war years of traditional full dress display.

Original helmet plates of this pattern were worn on full dress helmets by officers and other ranks, serving as a clear indication of corps affiliation and reflecting the prestige and heritage of the Royal Artillery. Surviving examples are valued for their historical authenticity and their association with the pre-1914 British Army.

Manufactured in brass with 3 period-eyed lug fittings to the reverse, this example represents a genuine piece of British military insignia from the early 20th century. Royal Artillery helmet plates of this era are widely collected within British militaria, particularly among those specialising in Edwardian uniforms, insignia, and pre-First World War equipment.
