Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) cap badge, restrike example of the original 1942–1947 pattern introduced at the formation of the corps during the Second World War. This badge features the corps’ distinctive device in relief, incorporating a calliper in the centre, surrounded by the laurel wreath and shields bearing the initials “REME” surmounted by the royal King’s crown, symbolising technical skill and electrical engineering expertise.

The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers were established in 1942 to bring together the maintenance, recovery, and repair functions of the British Army’s equipment and vehicles. The king’s crown used on this pattern reflects the reign of King George VI, placing it firmly within the wartime and immediate post-war period. Cap badges of this type were worn on headdress, identifying corps affiliation during its formative years.

This restrike example has been manufactured to replicate the appearance of original issue badges, making it suitable for display, study, or as a replacement piece. While not of period manufacture, it provides an accurate representation of the early REME insignia used during a critical phase of British military history.

Manufactured in gilding metal with standard fittings to the reverse, this example offers a clear and durable representation of British Army corps insignia. REME badges of this pattern are collected as examples of Second World War militaria, technical corps history, and cap badge collecting.
