Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria’s) cap badge – an original example of British Army headdress insignia, manufactured by Dowler of Birmingham and associated with the Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria’s). The badge reflects the proud heritage of one of Ireland’s distinguished infantry regiments, formed in 1881 through the amalgamation of the 87th and 89th Regiments of Foot under the Childers Reforms.

The badge features the regiment’s distinctive insignia in relief, incorporating the traditional flaming grenade emblem surmounted by a coronet, together with the regimental device of the angel harp surmounted by the Prince of Wales feathers. The design became one of the most recognisable symbols of the regiment and remained in use throughout much of its service history.

Cap badges of this type were worn on military headwear by officers and other ranks, serving as a visible indication of regimental affiliation and esprit de corps. The flaming grenade motif was a long-established symbol of Fusilier regiments and reflected the regiment’s proud military traditions.

The Royal Irish Fusiliers served with distinction throughout the British Empire and participated in major conflicts, including the Second Boer War, the First World War, and World War II. In 1968, the regiment became part of the Royal Irish Rangers following the amalgamation of several Irish infantry regiments.

Manufactured in metal with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic and highly collectable piece of Irish regimental insignia and British military history.
