Royal Irish Fusiliers Volunteers button (1881–1908 pattern), 26mm example of late Victorian and Edwardian British military uniform insignia associated with the volunteer battalions of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. This pattern dates from the regiment’s formation following the Childers Reforms of 1881 through to the early 20th century.

The button design features the regiment’s distinctive device in relief, incorporating an Imperial French 8th Infantry Regiment Barrosa eagle. The white metal construction reflects standard British military button manufacture of the period, providing a durable finish intended for regular polishing.

Buttons of this type were worn on volunteer battalion uniforms, identifying personnel attached to auxiliary formations associated with the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Volunteer units formed an important component of Britain’s part-time military structure prior to the establishment of the Territorial Force in 1908.

The Royal Irish Fusiliers served extensively across the British Empire during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and insignia connected with volunteer battalions reflect the wider system of county and auxiliary military service in Ireland during this period.

Manufactured in white metal with a shank fitting to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined piece of Irish regimental insignia suitable for collectors of British and Irish militaria.
