Royal West African Frontier Force flat gilt uniform button produced to the 1928–1960 pattern, corresponding to the later colonial period of British West African military service. This British colonial forces button displays the recognised RWAFF insignia, incorporating the corps palm tree emblem and title elements arranged in a composition typical of inter-war and post-war British military uniform buttons. The flat gilt construction reflects the simplified style adopted for wear on mess dress and blazers across West African units.
Royal West African Frontier Force buttons of this pattern were intended for wear on mess dress and waiters by personnel serving in the West African colonial forces and are collected as examples of British Empire and Commonwealth militaria, colonial regiment insignia, and historic uniform components from the inter-war, Second World War, and post-war periods. The reverse is fitted with a traditional shank fitting for secure attachment.
Condition
Good overall condition, retaining most of its bright gilt finish with minimal surface wear. Detail remains clear and well defined, and the reverse shank is intact and secure. No damage, repairs, or alterations are evident.
Note
