An original and scarce shoulder title for the Transvaal Scottish Volunteers, dating to the c.1902–1921 pattern period. This brass title features the distinctive curved inscription “TRANSVAAL SCOTTISH VOLUNTEERS” in bold capitals and was worn on the shoulder straps of service dress uniforms by members of the South African volunteer regiment.

Formed in 1902, shortly after the end of the Second Anglo-Boer War, the Transvaal Scottish Volunteers were a colonial infantry regiment, composed largely of men of Scottish descent residing in the Transvaal region. The unit played a vital role in domestic defence and ceremonial duties, and would later go on to serve in World War I, including operations in German South-West Africa and East Africa.

This shoulder title predates the regiment’s reconstitution as part of the Citizen Force of the Union Defence Force (UDF) in 1921, making it a rare survivor from the Edwardian and WWI-era South African military structure.
