South Carolina National Guard Faithful Service Medal, also known as the South Carolina Active State Service Medal, an American state military decoration awarded to members of the South Carolina National Guard in recognition of sustained service. The award recognises at least ten years of service within fifteen years and forms part of the state’s military honours system. It represents long-term commitment to the National Guard and is distinct from federal United States military decorations.
The circular medal features a border of 48 stars surrounding the inscription “FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE SOUTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD”. The central design depicts an upright palmetto tree growing beside the seashore, with an uprooted oak tree lying at its base. A crescent appears on the palmetto tree’s trunk, accompanied by a five-pointed star. These elements reflect the state symbolism and historical identity of South Carolina. The medal is suspended from a blue ribbon with two narrow white stripes positioned near the edges.
This medal is of interest to collectors of United States National Guard decorations, state-issued military awards and American military memorabilia.
