Welch Regiment cap badge produced as a restrike of the pattern worn between 1923 and 1959 by the Welch Regiment of the British Army. This British Army infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the Prince of Wales’s feathers issuing from a coronet with the motto “Ich Dien,” above a scroll bearing the title “The Welch.” The composition reflects the regiment’s long-standing association with the Prince of Wales and the traditional heraldic emblem long connected with Welsh regiments of the British Army.
The design remained in use throughout the inter-war period, the Second World War, and the early post-war years, representing the regiment’s identity until its amalgamation in 1969 to form the Royal Regiment of Wales. The arrangement follows the formal style typical of British Army infantry headdress insignia of the early and mid-twentieth century.
Manufactured in a bimetal (brass and white metal) consistent with service dress wear, this restrike example provides a sharply defined representation of the original mid-twentieth-century pattern. Welch Regiment cap badges are collected as examples of British Army infantry militaria, Welsh regimental insignia, and historic uniform hardware.
