An original Turkish Model 1874 Martini-Peabody socket bayonet, designed for use with the Peabody-Martini rifle adopted by the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th century.
Manufactured to fit the muzzle of the barrel of the Turkish Peabody-Martini rifle, originally purchased from Providence Tool Company in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. The bayonet features a 4-fluted cruciform blade, designed for deep thrusting and durability in combat. The socket is slotted for the rifle’s front sight, with a locking ring to ensure secure attachment.
These bayonets were widely issued to Ottoman forces and saw service across numerous conflicts, including the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878).
Marked underneath the socket with a “W” (Ottoman Turkish for “S”).
