Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) anodised button (1970–1992 pattern), 25mm example of British Army uniform insignia associated with the Ulster Defence Regiment. This pattern dates from the regiment’s formation in 1970 through to its amalgamation into the Royal Irish Regiment in 1992.

The button design features the regiment’s distinctive harp emblem in relief beneath the Queen’s Crown of Elizabeth II, together with the surrounding regimental title. The anodised aluminium finish, commonly referred to as “staybrite”, provides a bright appearance while requiring minimal maintenance compared with earlier brass buttons.

Buttons of this type were worn on service dress and other uniform garments by personnel of the Ulster Defence Regiment, a locally recruited infantry regiment of the British Army established during the period of unrest known as ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland. The 25mm size corresponds to use on tunics and outer garments where larger buttons were required.

The UDR carried out internal security, patrol, and support duties throughout its service history and became one of the largest infantry regiments in the British Army during the late 20th century. Its insignia reflects both military function and regional identity.

Manufactured in anodised metal with a shank fitting to the reverse, this example represents a durable and well-defined piece of modern British military insignia suitable for display or collection.
