Original Veteran’s Guard of Canada cap badge, dating from the Second World War period. The Veteran’s Guard of Canada was formed in 1940 to utilise the experience of older veterans in military service, particularly in guarding prisoner-of-war camps, military installations, and other important sites within Canada. Its personnel included veterans of the First World War and other former servicemen who were no longer required for frontline duties overseas.
The badge represents this distinctive Canadian wartime formation, which provided an important domestic security role while younger Canadian forces served overseas. The 1939–1947 pattern relates to the wartime and immediate post-war period, when the organisation supported Canada’s military infrastructure and internal security responsibilities. This original example is of interest to collectors of Canadian Second World War insignia, home-front militaria and veteran service organisations.
Marked on the reverse “R” for Roden Bros.
